Supergroup The Last Decade plays its very first show at Mystic Festival and supportsUkraine with the single “War”

Mystic Festival 2024 will see the debut show of The Last Decade, a gothic-metal supergroup. The festival will also host the premiere of the single “War” – and all income from its sale will benefit the Metal For Ukraine campaign.

The Last Decade band will perform for the first time at Mystic Festival, but even though the name is new, we are dealing with experienced artists, legends of the gothic/metal/darkwave scene. The band’s leader is Tim Vic, vocalist of Nosferatu, and he is accompanied by musicians known for End of Green, The Mission, Love Like Blood, Seekers Are Lovers and Schwarzer Engel, among others.

The program of the concert, whose entirety will be a surprise to everyone, will definitely feature “War.” This is the first song, written by then still teenage Vic.

– I picked up the news about this war going on somewhere. It made me sad, but also realize how lucky I am to live in peace and sitting in a room making music… So the first song I did was a simple bass line plus the lyrics of „War” – he recalls. His first band ended after only a few shows. But at one of them Tim met Michelle Darkness, who later became the vocalist of End Of Green, and with whom, years later, they began working on a new project together. Among other things, they recorded a new version of “War,” because again there was a war somewhere. However, they were both busy with their respective bands, so the new project remained in the formative stage. Until now…

– I got this exciting news that we could play Mystic Festival, but Nosferatu wasn’t available for that. So I sent in „War“ and we got the slot for something new. Then everything went – had to – really fast. We had to find musicians, recorded more songs, finalized those 2-3 excisting ones… – here’s how The Last Decade made it to our festival program. – Thinking about playing in Poland, the situation „next door“ in the Ukraine came up of course. Still a war going on, another one. So we added the last line to that „War“ song that is: „This war goes on, and on forever“ plus the „North – East – South – West“ in between…

At the Mystic Festival, “War” will not only blast from the stage, but will also go on sale as a limited edition seven-inch single. All proceeds will support the Metal For Ukraine campaign, bringing together several foundations supporting Ukraine’s defense effort in the war with Russia.

– To play music, entertain others etc. is something no one should be allowed to stop us. On the other hand I learned from Live Aid / Bob Geldof when I was a kid that music can also help others. So the idea of raising money came up. Telling Mystic Festival team about it was more than well received – says Tim Vic. – I hope that many, many people will like the song and buy the single to raise money for the innocent children. I got my bass guitar from my dad when I was young… some of them don’t. I wish we could buy every child, no matter from which country, an instrument instead of all those weapons.

Same as last year, you’ll find the Metal For Ukraine booth at the festival, including a wide selection of merch and albums by Ukrainian (and other) bands.
