Pentagram

Absolute pioneers. If it weren’t for them, the heavy music scene would have looked completely different. Pentagram is one of these bands that got doom metal started for good. What you will find in this music is not only thunderous riffs striking your heads but also occult ambience percolating from the walls and death lurking at every corner.

History:

Why was Pentagram created? Because its two forefathers, Bobby Liebling and Geof O’Keefe, wanted to summon greater heaviness and darkness. Thus, they both left their bands to form Pentagram in 1971. Goef might not have stuck around long in the band, but Bobby Liebling has remained steadfast for over five decades! For Pentagram, the 70s were a time of pathfinding and foundation-laying for their future cult status. During this period, the band released a couple of singles and a demo. They also changed their name a couple of times, though they always inevitably and rather quickly went back to the name Pentagram. The pivotal moment came with the following decade as 1985 finally saw the band release their debut full-length album. Since then, they were active non-stop until 2005, with seven full-length records under their belt. All of these showcase a dirty doom metal built on power riffs – an absolute masterclass of the genre to this day. Subsequently, the band went on a hiatus to return from the dead in 2008, living it up ever since. Bobby Liebling & company will come to the Mystic Festival with their newest, tenth record, Lighting in a Bottle.
