Eagles of Death Metal

The Mystic Festival is first and foremost about metal, but almost every metalhead – especially during a live shindig – likes to stomp their feet to garage rock’n’roll that sounds like a million dollars. Eagles of Death Metal will be the exact band that will rouse the rocking spirit in all of you. The project of Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme (yes, of the Queens of the Stone Age and Kyuss fame) will get your bloodstream pumping with testosterone.

History:

Eagles of Death Metal was formed in 1998. There are two versions of the origin story of their name, but we are picking the more interesting one for us. Allegedly, Josh’s friend wanted to get him to like death metal and used a Vader song as his argument. When Homme heard it, he came to the conclusion that Vader is “the Eagles of death metal.” Initially, the band’s career was limited to its participation in two parts of Josh’s famous collective series, The Dessert Sessions. In 2004, the band debuted with Peace, Love, Death Metal, which was warmly received. The songs from this record were featured in TV commercials and the friends’ project was gaining quite the recognition – back when Queens of the Stone Age, i.e. the main brainchild of Homme, had made a home for itself in the mainstream. The second ‘full-length’ record, Death by Sexy, was a continuation of the rock’n’roll formula with elements of rockabilly and also brought smashing hits to the table – including the fan favourite “Cherry Cola.” The band’s career remained steady and after releasing Heart On in 2008, the guys decided to take a break and focus on other projects. Seven years later, the Americans came back with their latest to date studio album, Zipper Down. During its promotion, they also played at the Parisian club Bataclan when tragedy struck – on November 13, 2015, during their concert, there was a terrorist attack that the band survived, but 90 fans died because of the shooting. After this terrifying event, the band did not give up – they’ve kept on touring, recording (though mostly cover albums) and holding on in the rock’n’roll world.
