Beherit

Formed in 1989, the band was on it from the beginning. In less than a year since the band’s formation, they released three demo tapes into the world. By virtue of their peculiar yet entirely raw and drenched in idiosyncratic energy take on black metal, the band quickly gained traction in the Finnish extreme underground (though not only there). In 1991 and 1992, they released some smaller material – including the cult compilation album The Oath of Black Blood – to then finally debut in 1993 with the full-length album Drawing Down the Moon. Thanks to such anthems like “The Gate of Nanna,” they solidified their place in the pantheon of young black metal stars.

Surprisingly, a year later, Beherit took a 180-degree turn. The subsequent material released by the band, or more precisely by its sole member, i.e. Nuclear Holocausto Vengeance, drifted towards dark ambient. After the premier of the second album from these generic shores, Electric Doom Synthesis, Beherit was put in the ground. The band came back only in 2009 with the record Engram. Nevertheless, the next new release, i.e. the 2020 album Bardo Exist, also marked the return to the dark ambient formula. Beherit’s latest record, WBRRR from 2023, also continues down this path. Their concert during the Mystic Festival will be their first ever on Polish soil.
