Black metal has many functions and evokes many moods. In the case of Oranssi Pazuzu, the main mood is that of acute anxiety, and the principal function is to pull you through the swamp. The psychedelic, drenched in krautrock and hypnotic black metal of these Finns has been recognised and appreciated for years now – both among metal and alternative music fans. When you listen to their music, you don’t have to fly to outer space, for the outer space will ooze from the speakers.
History:
Theoretically, Oranssi Pazuzu got started in 2007, but the earliest of their dates was in the year 2000. Back then, Jun-His, the leader and main composer of Oranssi Pazuz, played in a Finnish psych-rock band named Kuolleet Intiaanit. The aforementioned group disbanded the same year that the Orange Beast formed, but the experience that Jun-His gained during his tenure in the former deeply informed the shape of the latter. Jun-His (aka Juno Vanhanen) himself described Oranssi Pazuzu as the black metal variant of Kuolleet Intiaanit. (…)
